Jason Howell Quoted in Bizjournals Business Success Stories
June 2010 – SBA Small Business Administration: The 8(a) program is designed to allow participants to spend up to nine years within its protective confines while they learn the ins and outs of government contracting. For many, being dropped from SBA’s warm bosom is a frightening prospect. But Lee had been competing in full and open competitions since 2003, and she again had “no fear” when STGI graduated from the program in 2008 with $133 million in annual revenue.

“In our industry, people want to stay small so they don’t have to compete with the Booz Allens or SAICs,” Lee says. “But if everybody thought that way, the country would never prosper.”

Jason Howell, a small-business consultant, would agree. In fact, he’s written a book on “patriotic development,” his theory of why growth is imperative. “I can understand the fear associated with growing out of the comfort zone of 8(a) programs,” Howell says. “But it’s like the not-so-famous author, John Shedd, once said, ‘A ship in its harbor is safe – but that is not what ships are built for.’”…

Are You an Entrepreneur, or a Small Business Owner?
April 7, 2010 – Grow Smart Business Online Magazine
Innovation is the wheel that keeps the business world turning. Without it, we’d be living in energy inefficient homes, driving cars that run on leaded gasoline, and wearing parkas that don’t really block wind or keep us dry in a downpour. Innovation is that little—and sometimes big—something that separates entrepreneurs from small business owners.

In this, the final of a three part series based on a conversation I had with CPA and small business consultant Jason Howell, I share with you Jason’s thoughts on entrepreneurship, which are in turn based on Peter Drucker’s writings and thoughts… Read more >

March 31, 2010 – Grow Smart Business Online Magazine
It’s important that you and a potential partner have the same values and goals and that you get along and genuinely like each other. But what else do you need to look for in a potential business partner to ensure your partnership is successful? As I recounted in my last post, I recently met a super cool CPA and small business consultant named Jason Howell. He and I totally clicked: He’s funny, friendly, energetic, and chock full of advice for small business owners. We sat down to talk about small business finance and money matters; this post is the second in a series of three based on that conversation. Jason started out with the basics of forming a partnership, which will most likely come as no surprise. To set up a partnership, you need to… Read more >

Ready To Grow Your Business? Know Thyself Before Hiring
March 29, 2010 – Grow Smart Business Online Magazine
I recently met a super cool CPA. I do realize that statement is (usually) an oxymoron, but this guy is pretty much the opposite of what I expect a numbers-loving, detail-oriented accountant to look and act like. Jason Howell is one of the nicest, funniest, most friendly people I’ve ever met. He is full of energy, quick to laugh, and very engaging. In other words, he’s my kind of people. After talking to him a couple of times, I realized that not only is he really smart, he is also overflowing with advice for small businesses. We sat down one recent warm, sunny afternoon to talk about small business finance and money matters. This post is the first in a series of three based on the wisdom that Jason so generously shared with me… Read more >

Jason Howell Featured in the The Morehead News of Kentucky
December 2009: Jason Howell, future son-in-law of Ron and Carolyn Taylor and author of “AMERICA: Still the Land of Opportunity, Always a Home for the Brave” visited Morehead this past week. While here, he was a radio guest on 88.7 WNHU West Haven – Connecticut’s #1 College Radio Station.

Via telephone Mr. Howell helped to co-host a segment with the “Franzman” that focused on what people can do in 2010 to keep their jobs and help their country at the same time. “Your book was truly uplifting and inspirational,” said Franzman in a post interview e-mail. “Thanks for helping me make compelling radio.” The interview focused on how Americans have always been challenged but have always had courage and how we can display our courage during a down economy. “First of all, don’t just quit on your job, even if you don’t like it. I have used every work mundane experience to become an author,” remarked Mr. Howell. When Franzman asked about the “dress for success” concept as mentioned in the book, Mr. Howell remarked, “It’s more important that you dress appropriately for the job. I wouldn’t be comfortable if my mechanic wore a suit.”

Book & Media Buzz

“Your book was truly uplifting and inspirational…and I thank you so much for helping me make compelling radio.”

- Franzman on 88.7 WNHU West Haven Connecticut’s #1 College Radio Station
“Jason Howell’s audio book is an excellent listen! I own a small business and I played the book when I was particularly down about the economy. By equating patriotism with a renewal of passion for my work and customers, I was reinvigorated about why I started my own business in the first place.
Throughout his book, Jason reminded me that countrymen and women before me have struggled just as I am now and as a country we have weathered many economic crises. I particularly liked the idea of being my own ‘super power’ and projecting that image to my customers, employees, and peers.”

- Mary Layne, LifeStagesFitness.com

“It was a pleasure to review Jason Howell’s audio book. He has collected wisdom and leadership from our own American patriotic leaders and artfully connected it to our own professional and personal development. It’s a new concept, but he has crafted a well-delivered audio book based on in-depth research. For anyone wanting to better themselves with a better career, this is a valuable resource.”

- Darcie Davis, President, Darcie Davis Business Consulting

“It left me with a positive feeling that no matter how things may seem, that someone willing to work hard, is honest, has good work ethic, and respects his fellow man (or woman) can succeed in this country. As I start my new venture, I realize there is a chance of failure. But one thing that I can keep in mind is that this is still a land of opportunity. You never know what is right around the corner.”

– Michael Childs, Annandale, VA

From beginning to end, Mr. Howell’s timely message is one of appeal to the ideals and concepts that made America great. The book is a well researched work that will become an excellent addition to any motivational library and deserves a place of recognition for its original thinking and patriotic theme.”

– Felix B. Jarusewic, Jr., Reston, VA
